1. Drugs to avoid in patients taking Warfarin:

  1. Non-Steroidal AntiInflammatory Drugs (NSAID)s as they increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
  2. Tetracyclines as they inhibit the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  3. Sulphonamides as they inhibit the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  4. Chloramphenicol as it inhibits the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  5. Antifungal Imidazoles, for example, Ketoconazole as they inhibit the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  6. Cimetidine as it inhibits the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  7. Metronidazole as it inhibits the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.
  8. Quinolones as they inhibit the metabolism of Warfarin and may lead to bleeding.


2.INR is used to monitor the therapeutic efficacy and to avoid toxicity with Warfarin.
